What, you thought you would get answers?  They're coming, be patient.  It's late and I have to get some sleep.  Okay, here they are.  If they're too snarky, tough noogies.

  • Why should I publish with Antenna Books?
Why not?  Okay, maybe that's not the best reason, but it's as good a reason as any.  We're nice guys, we're fun to work with and we actually have a clue about what we're doing.  Besides, we're offering authors a 50% royalty (or better) on our net received from the ebook retailers, which ain't too shabby, considering that the Big Five NY print publishers (and you know who you are) are paying a 25% net royalty.  Does that suck or what?

  • What's with the name of your company?
We picked Antenna Books because the domain name was available.  That, and we thought it sounded cool, since you'd be downloading your ebook purchase wirelessly, through the airwaves.  Via some sort of antenna device in your ereader or cell phone.  Yeah, we tried out about a hundred other names, but some doofus (or many doofi) had already purchased the domain names.  No joke.  And no, we're not going to tell you what some of the other names were, so don't ask.

  • What kind of books does Antenna publish?
Anything that's good and that we like.  We like all sorts of books--fiction and nonfiction.  Mysteries, thrillers, romance, westerns, memoir, sports, military, politics, music, business, history, true crime--you name it.  If there's anything you don't see but you want, let us know.  We're picking up the out-of-print backlist titles of some authors, the estates of deceased authors (there are some great dead authors out there), and the ebook rights of older books that are still in print.  We're also publishing ebook originals--books that weren't picked up by print publishers for whatever reason, other than the fact that the print publishers are not always the best judge of talent or what will sell at any given moment.

  • Where can I buy Antenna Books?
Eventually, we want Antenna Books to be carried by all the major and minor ebook retailers, even independent book stores.  To start with, we're concentrating on Amazon (Kindle), Barnes & Noble (Nook) and iTunes/iBooks (iPad).  Kinda makes sense.  We're also adding titles to Kobo, too!

  • Is there any advantage to publishing with Antenna Books?
Well, it beats self-publishing.  For one thing, it'll cost you less!  For the other, even if there are some things an author has to pay for (such as copyediting or cover art) at this time, we know tons of real live freelancers with not just experience, but major book publisher experience.  We can hook up potential Antenna Book authors to industry professionals who are talented and who will give a fair price to our authors.  Those contacts and connections are worth a lot.  Imagine stumbling around in the dark without a flashlight and a paper bag over your head, and that's kind of what self-publishing is like.  Plus, we'll take care of all the crap work so you don't have to.  In addition, as a publisher, we can get into the special sales and marketing promotions at Amazon's Kindle, which are not available to self-published authors at any price.  Best of all, as mentioned above, we pay a much higher percentage of royalties than print publishers. You do the math...

  • Do you have any cool giveaway stuff with your nifty logo?
We wish.  What a great idea.  Maybe we'll get some t-shirts made up.  That would be awesome!

  • How do I pitch my book to you?
Send us an email, of course, at doug.grad@dgliterary.com. Bribes--hundred dollar bills, bottles of rare single malt Scotch, primo tickets to Broadway shows and sporting events, bottles of rare single malt Scotch or primo tickets to Broadway shows and sporting events wrapped in hundred dollar bills--would be great, but we can't take them.  If we sign you, and then you just happen take us to a Rangers game, at least then it'll be a tax write-off...for you.

  • Where do you get your authors from?
Piscataway, New Jersey.  Nah, we just like to see "Piscataway" in print.  Recommendations mostly.  But authors come from all over--from agents, from writer's conferences, from friends of friends, from that guy my next door neighbor knows, from my aunt's elementary school friend's second husband, etc.  Ya never know...
